Carter Smith had always been a proud man, but age had taken its toll on him. He was now 82 years old and legally blind, having lost his sight in the Vietnam War. Despite this, he refused to let his disability hold him back. He still walked with a cane, but it was more of a necessity than a sign of weakness.
